Working House Fire
On Saturday 8/9/25 at 0713 hrs, the Seaford Fire Department was alerted to a house at 1702 Lakeview Ave.
Upon arrival of Chief of Department Brian Beehler, a signal 10 (working fire) was transmitted for fire on the second floor of a 2 story private dwelling.
Engine 682 led by Captain Joe Bongiovi stretched a line to the second floor to extinguish the fire. Ladder 683 led by Captain Sal Ancona arrived and began searches and ventilation. EMS operations were under the command of Lt Caitlyn Bennet. Units 681, 684, 685, 686, Massapequa FD TL632, and Wantagh E691 responded as well.
Investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office determined the cause of fire to be spontaneous combustion of rags used to stain hardwood floors. These rags were piled right inside the front door of the home.
Luckily the family, which was sleeping on the lower level of the home was able to evacuate prior to the Departments arrival.
A reminder to all residents, smoke detectors save lives. Also, it is imperative to sleep with your bedroom doors closed to stop fire and heat spread. In the attached photos, you will see the remains of bathroom door which was closed. The hallway side is nearly burned through while there is no damage inside the bathroom. 📸: @k2mphoto , Ex Chief Steve Feil, Captain Bongiovi.
