Friday, June 30th at 2001 Hrs, the Seaford Fire Department responded to a call reporting smoke in the basement at Puglias Italian Steakhouse located at 3943 Merrick Rd.  6802 (2nd Assistant Chief Brian Beehler) arrived and reported that he had a smoke condition in the basement.  Engine 682 under the command of Captain PJ Lochner and Ladder 683 under the command of Ex-Chief George Kern responded.  Chief of Department Keith Kern (6800) arrived and requested mutual aid from Wantagh FD for one engine (693) and one ladder from the Massapequa FD (632) to the scene.  Crews in the basement found burning structural members with extension to the 1st floor kitchen area.  Extensive overhaul was required in the basement and 1st floor kitchen area.  The last units cleared the scene at 2345 Hrs.  The cause is under investigation of the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office.
