Burger King Working Fire
On Saturday, September 18th at 10:13 hours, the Seaford Fire Department was alerted for an Automatic Alarm at Burger King on Sunrise Hwy. Shortly after, North Massapequa Fire Communications upgraded the alarm to a reported building fire, and alerted 2nd Assistant Chief Thomas Cottone (6802) that there was an additional call reporting flames from the roof. 6802 arrived and transmitted the signal 10 (working fire) reporting a fire on the roof. Engine 681 arrived and stretched a line to the rear of the building. The crew stretched to the roof and found a well involved air handler extending to the roofing material. Ladder 683 split their crew between the first floor and the roof to perform searches and check for extension. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the rooftop unit with minor extension to the duct work below it.
Special thanks to the following departments who provided mutual aide: the North Massapequa Fire Department, Massapequa Fire Department, Wantagh Fire Department, Merrick Fire Department and the Bellmore Fire Department.
The incident was under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Keith Kern (6801). The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Nassau County Fire Marshal.
